Our Firm

DUNN & BROWNE, L.L.C. has practice concentrations in business law, residential and commercial real estate, including land development law, and general civil litigation.  Another significant concentration area of the firm’s practice is in the fields of estate planning and administration, including wills, and trusts.  As part of this concentration area, the firm has a practice emphasis upon elder and child disability law and is able to address the legal needs of parents of disabled children with special needs trusts and related services.  The firm has offices in New York and New Jersey.  Its principal office is at the Valley Legal Center, River Vale, New Jersey.  The firm includes attorneys admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.

DUNN & BROWNE, L.L.C. has an extensive background in the representation of businesses and corporations with headquarters or local offices in the metropolitan New York region.  The firm is structured with the objective of addressing, as local or “outside counsel," a broad range of ordinary legal issues characteristic of the modern business environment of our clients.  The firm does significant land use work, including real estate development and zoning, in addition to providing general litigation and commercial legal services.  The firm has a significant history of public service by its representation of local municipal planning boards for over 40 years.

The VALLEY LEGAL CENTER is the principle office location for a group of small legal firms with complementary practices.  The group’s purpose in locating at the Center is to provide an expanded, or “boutique,” range of legal services to residential and small business clients from the northern New Jersey areas in which these firms practice.  Thus, for example, clients with needs ranging from family law matters to accident claims, or elder law to commercial litigation, from real estate transactions to guardianships, can find a qualified and experienced attorney with knowledge of the unique issues involved in the client’s particular matter.  The name, VALLEY LEGAL CENTER, is intended to reflect the group’s commitment to service of clients within the Northern and Pascack Valley areas.

DUNN & BROWNE, L.L.C. is the firm resulting from the merger, in 1996, of the firm of Breitenstein & Browne, P.A. with Dunn & Dunn, Esqs.  These two firms each practiced law for many years in Closter.  The merger into the present firm enhanced the firm’s ability to offer more specialized legal services in an age of increasing legal complexity.

A unique feature of DUNN & BROWNE, L.L.C. is our "triage" policy of addressing the client's real legal and business concerns.  This means that the firm renders services in accordance with the client's priorities rather than our own.  We will not exhaust limited client resources by rendering services inappropriate for the matter at issue.  On the other hand, we will devote ourselves to the client's threshold matters which affect the foundations of its business or his or her personal legal rights and interests.

The first principle of conduct in this firm's practice of law is uncompromising integrity.  In this age of complex and competing values and public cynicism, we remain committed to straight dealing with our clients as well as our adversaries and associates.  We do not confuse vigorous advocacy with discourtesy, or dissembling.  We understand the difference between a mutually beneficial settlement and the surrender of principle.  The firm will not compromise its reputation through either a lack of candor or the pursuit of illegitimate claims.  We believe that good attorney-client relationships are built on the quality of our service and our concern for our clients’ real interests.

Our current fee schedule is available upon request.  All agreements for legal services are reduced to writing.  In many matters, a specific fee cannot be established initially because of the adversarial or ambiguous nature of the services required.  In all cases, however, a good faith estimate will be given, or an hourly rate applied.

The firm abides by all Rules of Court applicable to attorneys’ fees as they may apply for specific matters
